Energy in a Box, A Bloom Box

The Power of Learning and Thinking

This post is drifting a bit from the world of home theater and technology, but it is important to understand how autistic behavior and the roles people with autism have played in developing some of the great technological achievements of the world. Many of you may be familiar with Dr. Temple Grandin and you might have seen HBO’s movie about her life entitled, “Temple Grandin: Thinking in Pictures.” This video is the real, Temple Grandin and she walks folks through what it is to be an autistic human being in today’s world. The subject of Autism is near and dear to my family since we have a 5-year-old son with autism. Temple Grandin’s writings and presentations helped ourselves and many others to better understand autism and how to effectively interact with our son. Telling you my son is brilliant is simply an understatement. Despite being autistic he is very high-functioning and an extremely happy little boy. I don’t know of too many other 5-year-olds who can tell me, in detail, about the systems of the human body, educate me on the solar system and work an iPod Touch better than most adults. Bottom line folks, it’s important to understand how to properly interact, educate and mentor people with autism and I thought I’d share with you all just how eloquently Temple Grandin explains the world of Autism through her own personal autistic challenges. Enjoy!

That One Magical “Super” Sunday

Today is Super Bowl Sunday! Today is the day all true fans of the pigskin live for. Yeah sure, we’d love to have our teams competing in the big game, but its more than just a game. For those of us who enjoy the sport to the extreme, it is a chance to let others into our crazy, fanatic, football lives and enjoy the day with good friends and family. I truly hope this day is a great one for everyone. I’m sure many of you have been waiting to show off that beautiful HD television set or perhaps you just got back from buying one and are now, desperately trying to get it wired and ready to go. At the very least, raise a glass of your favorite beverage to this long-standing sport tradition that is ‘The Super Bowl’ and give thanks to all that you have in your lives. Oh….and don’t forget to TiVo the commercials, if you miss them they’ll be on YouTube.
